چکیده

Deep decarbonization paths to the 1.5 °C or 2 temperature stabilization futures require a rapid reduction in coal-fired power plants, but many countries are continuing build new ones. Coal-fired plants also major contributor air pollution related health impacts. Here, we couple an integrated human-earth system model (GCAM) with quality (TM5-FASST) examine regional co-benefits from cancelling worldwide. Our analysis considers evolution of pollutants control based on coal vintage and policies. We find that all proposed projects would decrease premature mortality between 101,388–213,205 deaths (2–5%) 2030, 213,414–373,054 (5–8%) 2050, globally, heavily concentrated developing Asia. These comparable magnitude values obtained by implementing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Furthermore, estimate strengthening climate target avoid 326,351 additional mortalities which 251,011 (75%) attributable incremental plant shutdown.

Controlling air pollution from coal power plants in China: incremental change or a great leap forward.

C is in the midst of the largest and fastest period of economic growth in global history. While this growth at 9 10% GDP per year has lifted hundreds of millions of people from poverty, the all out prioritization of economic prosperity has created serious air and water pollution that are affecting the health of the local population, and also have increasing global climate impacts. Air Pollutant Emissions from Coal-fired Power Plants. 2.

In order to investigate the factual air pollutant emissions from Henan’s power sector in 2010, SO2, NOx and PM emissions from 24 generating sets from 15 coal-fired power plants have been measured. It is shown that SO2 emission values from 22 of 24 generating sets conform to the requirements, which is causing by the high performance of the flue gas desulfurization system. Much higher NOx emissio...

Mercury pollution in vegetables, grains and soils from areas surrounding coal-fired power plants

Mercury contamination in food can pose serious health risks to consumers and coal-fired power plants have been identified as the major source of mercury emissions. To assess the current state of mercury pollution in food crops grown near coal-fired power plants, we measured the total mercury concentration in vegetables and grain crops collected from farms located near two coal-fired power plant...

Quantifying Air and GHG Emission Reductions from Clean Energy Measures

Basic approaches typically include spreadsheet-based analyses that use emissions factor relationships or other assumptions to estimate reductions. Sophisticated approaches are usually more complex and involve dynamic electricity or energy system representations that predict energy generation responses to policies and calculate the effects on emissions.* 4.2.2 QUANTIFY AIR AND GHG EMISSION REDUC...
